The Office of Research Compliance provides professional administrative and support staff to oversee university community compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines associated with research and teaching at Virginia Tech. Compliance assurance in all of the affected areas is required to ensure continued permission by the Government to conduct research at our institution.
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews VT research protocols involving human subjects to ensure that they meet federal laws and established guidelines. IRB approval of research protocols is required prior to the enrolling or involvement of human subjects in research, or access to data or records about a living person.
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is committed to providing humane care for and ensuring the well-being of animals used in research and teaching at this university. The IACUC ensures that the care and use of animals is in compliance with applicable federal laws, regulations and guidelines.
Post Approval Monitoring (PAM) provides federal regulatory agencies with assurances that an approved study is conducted in accordance with the protocol approved by each committee. Conducted by the PAM officer assesses the performance of approved protocols, records management, and regulatory compliance.
The Office of Export and Secure Research Compliance (OESRC) oversees university and researcher compliance with applicable U.S. government export and sanction regulations for regulated university activities.
